2013 MARCHING BAND RULES AND REGULATIONS Carolinas' Carrousel provides marching bands several areas of opportunity for recognition and awards. Marching Band Awards: The Spirit of Carrousel Award goes to the highest scoring high school marching band: $500 cash award / Honor (Lead) Band position the following year's Carrousel Parade on Thanksgiving Day. In addition to the Spirit of Carrousel Award, three $300 awards will be given to the bands (excluding the Spirit of the Carrousel Award Winner) with the remaining highest score in each of three classes: Class AAA 75 winds and up For more information on band awards, see Band Spirit of Carrousel page. Travel Honorariums are available for participating bands. The amount offered is based upon travel distance. Band Scholarships - $5,500 awarded annually: $750 to Overall band student, $500 to Inside Mecklenburg band student, $500 to Outside Mecklenburg band student, with matching awards to students' high schools. Also one $2,000 Maddox Award Scholarship to a band student who intends to major in music at college. Community Bands, College Bands and professional bands are invited to participate in the Parade but are not guaranteed travel dollars, are not scored for the Spirit award, and are not eligible for scholarships. They are, however, eligible for best in parade awards. PARADE PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS All marching bands must maintain forward motion. Counter marching, reverse marching, and/or stopping the forward motion of the parade without specific instructions to do so is prohibited. Failure to comply with parade marshals' instructions may result in deduction from judging points and/or removal from the parade. All performances must be in good taste compatible with the Carolinas' Carrousel's mission to enhance our community life through quality family oriented entertainment and the promotion of academic and artistic excellence. Routines and/or expressions of a lewd, obscene nature are expressly prohibited. Likewise, actions portraying violent, abusive and/or offensive behavior are not appropriate. Band boosters marching with the band (e.g., First Aid team, parents,
etc.): INSURANCE REQUIREMENTS RELEASE AND INDEMNITY All entrants must sign and return a provided Release and Indemnity Form agreeing to indemnify Carolinas' Carrousel, Inc., its officers, directors and employees and hold them harmless with respect to all defenses that they shall be required to make in connection with any claim or action arising out of the participants involvement with the parade and/or other festival activities. CHECK LIST (See Application Deadlines for due dates.) Data Sheet completely filled out, including acknowledgement of these Rules and Regulations Release and Indemnity Form signed & enclosed Insurance certificate attached. Please verify your insurance by sending your Certificate of Insurance or verifying that the band is covered by school insurance during this activity. Conduct Agreement signed Photographs of uniforms for all units within Marching Bands, Drill Teams and/or Steppers enclosed. (REQUIRED FOR CONSIDERATION TO BE INCLUDED IN PARADE IF BAND HAS NOT PREVIOUSLY PARTICIPATED.)
